I can remember working in the yard with my dad. It seemed that my task was to pull weeds and now that I’m a dad, I’m looking forward to the day when I can delegate that to my son. But, as with most things, there is a right way and a wrong way to pull weeds, chemicals withstanding.

We all want an expanding economy, but what about expanding righteousness? We all want an all-inclusive vacation, but what about all-inclusive righteousness? We all want greater opportunity, freedom, access and ability, but what about greater righteousness? We’ve all done this. We’ve all driven through a town, a neighborhood and thought, “I want to live here.” A few weeks ago, I was in the Hill Country. Yes, I want to live there.
Later today we’ll watch a Cowboy game and see people sitting in seats virtually next to the players. We’ll see suites that cost in the millions. We’ll watch baseball games and see fans nearly sitting on the field. We’ll drive a new truck today and think, “I could get used to that.” A tool, a couch, clothing or house and think, “I could live there.” But what about a righteous neighborhood? Would you fit in there?

When you think of introductions, this one is at the bottom of the list. When I think of an entourage, I think of a motorcade, flashing lights, suburbans with men carrying weapons and ear pieces. But when Jesus begins His ministry, He is introduced by a poorly dressed prophet with a weird appetite and a knack for making people mad.

Matthew 2 is one of those chapters where we tend to see only the sunny side. We see three gifts, which has to mean there were three wise men, and a nice manger scene. It makes for a very nice story if you read only half the chapter. The other half of that same chapter should cause you to cringe and tear up.

Jesus was not easy to follow, listen to or sometimes understand. If he showed up today, would we follow Him? My guess is no and here's why...

Do you like to raise your hands in worship? Maybe even move your feet and clap your hands? Or are you the type who stands, hands to your side and watching others who raise their hands and wonder what in the world they are thinking?
